Bruce De Wald wintered over at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, in Operation DEEP FREEZE in 1963 & 1966 and summered over in DEEP FREEZE 1972-73 & 1973-74. He was a Special Air Crew (Weather/Ice Observer) for almost 3 years during his winters and summers and has kept current on aviation in Antarctica.
